Youth Service America selects 11 Virginia student ServiceVote 2008 Organizers
Posted October 16, 2008 at 1:01 PM

ServiceVote 2008, Youth Service America’s non-partisan campaign to engage young people in the full spectrum of civic actions, has been working to mobilize and support the students, faculty and staff on Virginia's college and university campuses to forge tangible connections between service and the political process and to increase voter registration, education and mobilization efforts on campus and within the surrounding campus communities.

Building on the significant recent growth in both youth volunteering and voting, ServiceVote challenges young people to recognize political participation as a means to serving their community and to connect the critical issues they work to address through service with the range of institutions and activities that make our democracy work.

To further encourage and highlight youth voice, youth vision and youth engagement in service and the political process, ServiceVote has recently selected student ServiceVote Organizers from the following colleges to lead and support one voter education and two voter mobilization projects that connect service to the electoral process:

College of William and Mary, Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, Germanna Community College, James Madison University, Lynchburg College, Mary Baldwin College, Northern Virginia Community College, and Patrick Henry Community College.

Each ServiceVote 2008 Organizer will received a $500 stipend.
