Discussion: Darfur: Putting a Face on the Numbers

This is Leila.  She is one of the more than 2.5 million people displaced by the genocide in Darfur.  She is a lot more than one of 2.5 million.  She is a daughter.  She is a sister.  She is loved, and she loves.  She has hopes and wants to be happy.  She has nothing to do with the complexities of Sudan.

I met Leila in September 2007 in a refugee camp in Eastern Chad.  It was a joy to be with her, carry her, and laugh with her.  It was crushing to know why she is there and that the world is not willing to take responsibility and protect her.  It is clear that our leaders will not do the right thing just because it's the right thing to do.  It is up to us, regular people, to embracy responsibility and push it back up to those we have entrusted with power.

Please be a part of our Stop Genocid
