The Commonwealth of Kentucky’s Secretary of State, Trey Grayson, sent out a press release recently that has official information about Kentucky’s primary on May 20th.
Here’s what Grayson had to say:
“Kentucky hada tremendous election day. We had a smooth elections process and record breaking turnout for a Presidential Primary. Election officials at the state and local level should be commended for their work in this primary election.
Although we will not know official figures for turnout for several months, our office is estimating turnout for all ofKentuckyto be 32% (43% Democrats, 19% Republicans, approximately). Over the last five years, Kentuckians have continued to increase their participation in elections, and we are hopeful that these encouraging results will continue through the election in November.”
Notes:
The previous record turnout for a Presidential Primary was 26.5% in 1992 (31% for Democrats and 19% for Republicans).
It is great that so many Kentuckians got out votingTuesday! Hopefully we will be able to increase our number of voters in November. These unofficial numbers make me wonder if people voted just because the elections this year are so hyped up by the media. I mean, people treated this Democratic primary like the real-deal elections.
