It was no big surprise in the bluegrass when Hillary Clinton blew Barack Obama out of the water in the primaries.
Hillary won big with rural folks and the working class. Barack rocked the metropolitan areas of Kentucky, but to no avail.
Senator Clinton took Kentuckyby more than a two to one margin. And with 51 delegates up for grabs in Kentucky… with an additional nine superdelegates…Clinton was hoping for a big win to keep her campaign afloat. She got what she needed.
Here's the delegate breakdown of Kentucky... just for a reference:
Last night’s primary involved 51 pledged delegates. The nine super delegates are NOT part of that 51 total. 8 of the super delegates are already known. Three have committed to Clinton, two to Obama. One of the super delegates won’t even be selected until the state democratic party convention in early June. So, when it is all said and done, we will send 60 delegates total to the convention in August.
Phew.
Hillary won with 65% of the vote to Barack’s 30%. In hard numbers…Clinton received 458,955 votes and Obama got 209,763.
I spoke to a few Obama fans at the Clinton rally and they said they voted for Hillary, simply because she took the time to visit Kentucky and felt that we were important. Kentucky hasn’t felt important in an election in a long time.
Hillary stood with her family at the Marriott in Louisville yesterday evening and waved and graciously thanked her fans for sticking by her side. She said the fight isn’t over yet, and then referenced everyone to go to her website to donate money.
There’s no doubt about it. Hillary Clinton’s supporters love her. They’ll follow her until the end.
