Watch Party 08
Posted November 04, 2008 at 5:12 PM

The University of Oklahoma has been campaigning all semester for an idea called OU Votes. This organization is a group of several smaller groups on campus that have come together for the same cause, get OU students registered to vote in this election.

Today the group had golf cart drivers taking students to the nearest polling places around campus. One golf cart volunteer said OU Votes registered more than 2,000 voters in Cleveland County since August.

“It is everyone’s duty as an American to vote,” Kurt Lockran said.

Kurt said the goal of OU Votes is to get students talking about politics with each other.

“The hope that people can gather and discuss the issues,” he said.

And that is exactly what is going on in the student union tonight. A presidential watch party began at 5pm. Hundreds of students started to fill in two hours before the results come in. A lot of foreign exchange students are also present to experience this historic night.  Four televisions are set up turned to four different stations.  There is also a can food drive going on in the back of the ballroom.

“To me it is very important that all citizens get involved in politics,” Evan Noble, OU Votes volunteer said.

Evan said he is glad so many students came out tonight and he said he hopes most of them voted today.

“If you don’t vote than you can’t complain,” he said. “We Americans love to complain.”
