The American Cancer Society estimates more than 96,000 new cases of cancer will arise in Texas.
It’s a big number, considering Texas also has some of the highest numbers of people without health insurance. This week, the American Cancer Society is hosting U.S. Minority Cancer Awareness Week. Their studies state "racial and ethnic minorities and medically underserved groups are more likely to develop cancer, and die from it, than the general U.S. population."
Projects such as Relay For Life, which is held in communities across the country, help raise awareness and funds for cancer research. My video focuses on a Relay event held in San Marcos, Texas at Texas State University-San Marcos, where I am a graduate student. This week, we are hosting a bone marrow registry drive, which is attempting to register 2,000 students.
