No Gay Blood
Queer
activists
in
Portland,
Maine,
recently
put
up
a
series
of
strongly
worded
satirical
posters
intended
to
criticize
the
American
Red
Cross
for
a
policy
that
prohibits
gay
men
from
donating
blood.

Wow,
Jaime...you
did
a
really
good
job
on
this
one.
This
is
a
really
controversial
issue
and
your
video
is
very
balanced.

Maybe
if
homosexual
men
weren't
the
highest
demographic
of
aids
cases,
the
Red
Cross
would
be
more
lenient
on
their
policies.
I
was
the
queer
kid
in
high
school
who
couldn't
give
blood,
and
although
it
hurt,
it
made
perfect
sense.
Live
is
all
about
choices.
If
you
put
yourself
at
risk
for
a
deadly
disease,
your
blood
is
not
wanted.
Maybe
if
everyone
was
asked
to
be
tested
first,
then
policy
could
be
changed
for
gay
men.
Good
luck
with
the
fight,
but
this
is
not
homophobia,
it's
general
public
safety,
whose
standards
need
to
be
heightened
anyway.
