With a exactly 2 hours left in Illinois to cast your primary vote…Illinois polling has seen its share of bumps in the road. While some voters are grappling with the idea of choosing between two candidates with Illinois roots (Sen. Obama lives in Hyde Park and Sen. Clinton grew up in the suburbs), polling places, particularly election judges) are experiencing worse problems.
This morning, two election Judges were arrested after a disagreement led to a physical fight! The two judges who were working at a downtown polling site (600 West Washington) were removed after one judge jumped on the back of the other judge over a procedure dispute. What makes this fight UNIQUE is that both of the judges were FEMALE and this resulted in one of the judges being taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment. The other judge was arrested by Chicago police and charged with battery. There is still no word on the condition of the one judge that was taken away via ambulance.
Another polling site got a surprise visit from Oprah Winfrey after not enough election judges showed up. Oprah, who was casting her vote nearby, decided to stop by the site uninvited. While some election officials were upset by Oprah’s unexpected visit, seemingly, the pressure her presence exerted on the workers at the poll resulted in the problem being fixed ASAP!!!! Within one hour, the site had enough election judges to open its doors to voters!
