With a little under an hour remaining until the polls close in West Virginia, the Democratic Headquarters located on 7th Avenue in Huntington remains full of phone bankers and Obama well-wishers. Though current exit polls show Sen. McCain is currently leading the state by as much as 10 percent, the mood at the Democratic HQ remains unflinchingly optimistic.

Daniel Jonas, 22 (above, right), has been phone banking all afternoon. Though he acknowledges the upward struggle Democrats have had in the state (which sided with the Republican candidate in both the 2000 and 2004 elections), he says that he's hoping the efforts of Democrats such as those currently working at the headquarters will ultimately turn the state blue.
"The fact that it's even this close says a lot about how this election has gone," Jonas said, "because in the past, we've seen a double digit spread between the candidates."
"We're hoping that we're working harder than the McCain people are, and we can maybe push it over the edge."

As the polls close in West Virginia in the next few minutes, workers at both campaign headquarters in Huntington will hang up their phones -- many of which have been off their hooks and in the hands of inspired volunteers for months -- and turn their eyes to the national news outlets for final voting results.
