I just came from the Gansevoort hotel where the lasting impression for me actually was an off camera moment talking with Paul Simon for about 20 minutes outside in the rain as we waited for drivers about African- Haitian ... empowerment and just the message that we cannot give the same way just dropping off directionless money. I know he has been singing about this for a while and I said you've known about this huh...Mr Simon said to me I hate to say to people I told you so but I told you so, people are starting to get the message but are we going to get the message in time. Ahh fabulous Paul Simon I love you and he's so funny because when he saw my inspi(red) tattoo he said very cool young lady but you know you could have just bought the T shirt HA! Mr Simon I'm crazy don't you know.

Now WCLEF is amazing as always: this morning at the Ganseevort he announced he wants to raise 48 million in two weeks for his new intiative TOGETHER FOR HAITI 1.5 million of which has already been raised, the rapper/activist is partnered with the WFP ( World Food Programme) the United Nations,and PADF ( Pan American Development Foundation) with his own foundation YELE HAITI for an emergency Alliance for food crisis relief in his native HAITI.
Among others at the event at the Gansevoort hotel were Jeffrey Sachs who added the support of UN SECRETARY GENERAL BAN-KI MOON, Legend Paul Simon, Supermodel Petra Nemcova and Executive Director Hugh Locke of Yele Haiti who MCd the conference.
Wycelf spoke to live haitian radio in creole a sign he is a boy of the land FOR REAL, but was just as easily at ease in a pin stripe suit as he spoke to International and US press about the cause close to his heart. " I grew up on a farm" he spoke as he highlighted the importance of micro financing the solutions. Jean spoke about giving 5 chickens to each family stressing the importance of helping the people to help themselves.
Always the funny man he introduced celebrity friends and Haitian supporters including his pastor which he was joking that if he ever runs for president the Pastor better behave or he'll denounce everything.
CLEF for PRESIDENT hmm I believe he's written a song about that already.

I am so glad this direction is happening Russell Simmons too has seen the light with his diamond empowerment fund, as has Bono and the (RED) campaign. HELP PEOPLE HELP THEMSELVES then you don't have to help forever. I am so proud of Wycelf, I saw truth in his eyes, truth and assurance and a willingness to learn and partner with others.
