When I talked about Election '08 with illusionist Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller, he advised me, "Consider not voting." Find out why.

Nice interview snag, Tony!

But Penn should really stick to Vegas and leave politics alone. It's awfully hard to give good advice on politics when you've spent your life making money as a cynic.

I have a hard time swallowing the idea of not voting. However, I completely agree that an insincere vote is a vote thrown away. You're not choosing who you'd really like for president -- just what you'll settle for. Scary thought that one, if we keep settling for the lesser-of-two-evils....yikes.

I love Penn, but he's wrong here. People who don't vote are not considered to have taken a stand, they're considered to be lazy. It's only natural, the average American is much more likely to be lazy than to take a stand. I'm in favor of making the statement "None of these bums are good enough for the job" now and again, but not voting just doesn't say that. If you want to send that message, go to the polls and write in "None of these bums are good enough for the job" on the ballot. If that's what you really want to say, not voting is wasting your vote.

And if you think you can change things in a democracy by letting the government think you are lazy, you're not just lazy, you're crazy.

Wow. Quite the dialogue going about this story! If anything, Penn sure did stir up some controversy! I'm glad you guys are all really thinking about this story instead of just letting wash over you. We honestly need more people to talk and have intelligent debate like this.

And just so we're clear, I don't necessarily agree with the things that people say in my stories. While the piece is about Penn's opinion, I don't necessarily share that opinion. But then, my opinion on this matter is not of great importance.

Carry on the conversation, people!
