Usher Challenges The Boys And Girls Of Atlanta To ‘Be Iconic’

Usher Raymond the fourth has been many things. Multi-platinum recording artist, Grammy winner, actor, amazing dancer and now, a giant outdoor billboard in Atlanta.

As part of the Boys & Girls Clubs’ “Be Great” campaign, the people of A-Town were greeted this morning with a shiny new outdoor display featuring a young Usher and the phrase “Be Iconic,” which Usher certainly has become.

Like other famous alumni of the Boys & Girls Clubs, Usher found his club in Tennessee to be a place to explore and pursue the skills that would one day lead him to become Mr. Entertainment. “It helped reinforce the values I learned at home, including good character, leadership and giving back to my community, my country and my world,” Usher said at the unveiling, according to a press release.

Young people of Atlanta, we wish you the best in fulfilling Usher’s challenge.

I guess I should start out with acknowledging that Usher is brilliantly talented and simplistically stated… “iconic”… I say simplistically because this simply means that he is famous it does not imply by any means of good character or a role model… so basically he is simply promoting for children to pursue “fame” and not in any way does it support or imply to be of strong character or to step out into the world and make a difference for the better of humanity. If this were the case I would highly commend him… but to enforce the notion that to be “iconic” a.k.a. “famous” is how you make your mark in life… is not only scary but a crying shame.

As I stated, I do think that Usher is “brilliantly talented” and has a voice that is so amazing and mesmerizing that he could actually sing literally about “eating pooh” and it would top the charts… if one takes the time to listen to his lyrics this is not how one would want their child to govern their conduct. In fact, Usher freely promotes a promiscuous lifestyle of adultery and illicit affairs as a natural and desirable way of life not only through his lyrics, but also through his public persona and notably in his appearance on MTV Cribs where he proudly bragged to the world that the biggest benefit of his oversized flat widescreen TV was to watch his porn and Playboy… are we such a disturbed and desperate society that we call this “iconic” as if the word implied “role model”?

This is not to say that his charitable contributions do not have the ability to promote change… granted that is a given… however inadvertently his lack of “good and positive” character is sending out a message of poor character value and setting the wrong examples of proper conduct. Then to boot to set the standards of your goals in life to be “iconic” implies that without stardom you have yet to achieve anything and this is reinforced by Usher’s actual lifestyle that is in the news and media. And has now, set the standard in these little minds as to what is cool and what qualifies as success and these little minds now not only set their goals to be “iconic” a.k.a. “famous” they also are under the delusion that all of the unacceptable behavior and promiscuous lifestyle is the norm and to be desired, as if it were benefits with the job. Opposed to instilling following their dreams and simply being the best that they can be no matter their field of interest and regardless of what life throws at them along with reinforcing good character qualities such as, honesty, integrity, being true to your word, committing to commitments, a strong work ethic, monogamy, and family values!

I am more than aware that Usher claims to be a Christian… however anyone with any sense Christian or non-Christian knows that you cannot live such a lifestyle and think you’re good with God… this is what’s known and referred to as Counterfeit Christianity… people of God are accountable for their conduct and actions and are disciplined… they do not go around lying, scheming, breaking their word, breaking their commitments, committing adultery, having illicit affairs, and bragging about their addiction to pornography as if it made them cool! This is not to say that one cannot find some good in Usher… I’m sure he can be “the hit of the party” and obviously fun to sing and dance with (as long as you’re not listening to the lyrics) however this can be said for just about any loser… after all every murderer DOES have a best friend!

Peace and God Bless!
