No, I will not be writing Congress in support of the DREAM Act. I am personally against any form of amnesty for illegal immigrants. The parents brought this circumstance upon their children, not the American taxpayers. I've heard a great deal of talk about the struggle of keeping families together, however, no one has brought up the reality that there is nothing preventing families from staying together in their native countries. I don't work every day so that my tax money can fund the education of criminal trespassers and their families. That might not work well in a catchy tune, and it might not provide the warm, pseudo-humanitarian sentiment that many of my peers seek, but it is an honest position that many hard working Americans like myself hold. What needs to happen is what is happening in Oklahoma, which is proactive enforcement of the current federal laws. Employers willing to circumvent the minimum wage system by hiring illegal immigrants need to be held accountable.
