You may recall that when Campaign:Malawi took off last March, we held a t-shirt contest. With the contest now complete, we're ready to announce its winners, each of whom will receive a limited edition t-shirt from our partner Digital Gravel and the DG Water Project.
So without further ado, they are: Phil from Pennsylvania, Kate from Massachusetts, Alex from Washington, Kristen from Pennsylvania and Clint from Oklahoma.
And how did they hear about PlayPumps International? Well, we'll tell you, but while it's on your mind (and if you're logged into Twitter), why not tweet about how you learned about PlayPumps International by clicking here.
Phil learned about the PlayPump® water system from research he was doing for an Engineering Design class project. Who said research was boring?
Kate was thumbing through a kid’s magazine when she came across a photo of children playing on a PlayPump® system. With her aspirations to someday work in Africa in the health and resource management fields, she was hooked on the idea.
Alex discovered PlayPumps International on Twitter! Thanks for following us, Alex!
Clint found PlayPumps International in GOOD magazine when he came across a feature story on the PlayPump® water system.
Kristen’s story is what “being the change you wish to see in the world” is all about. She, her husband, and their four children first heard about the PlayPump water system in 2005 while watching a Frontline/World television program that included a segment on PlayPumps. Since then, they have been supporting PlayPumps International and helping spread our story and support the cause!
This month, Kristen and her husband organized their 2nd annual Walk4Water event in their neighborhood to raise money for Campaign:Malawi. Almost 40 children, from 5 months of age to 11 years old, pooled their piggy banks and asked for sponsors to support their upcoming walks. Kristen helped raise awareness in the community and garnered donations from local businesses as well. On June 6, the children walked about 3 miles with family and friends, exceeding their goal of $1000 with $1,185.49 in PlayPumps funds! It was all about kids working together, having fun and helping other kids have fun and receive the gift of clean water. That’s truly amazing.
The energy in the Kerwin family abounds. This coming fall, they are opening their home for their second annual “Three Below,” a children’s secret shop where they can shop for cared ones, while never having to pay above $3, with 100% of proceeds going to PlayPumps International. Thank you Kerwin family for telling our story and inspiring others!
And thank you to everyone who participated in the contest and to all of our supporters. Congrats to Phil, Kate, Alex, Clint, and the Kerwin family, and thanks for all you do to help up bring clean drinking water to people in sub-Saharan Africa.
As Campaign:Malawi's star chairman, Kenna, put it so well, “You are brilliant!”
