What will you do for World Water Day?
Posted March 13, 2009 at 7:32 AM

Water is Life

Water is life. It is as simple as that. Our mission is to provide schools and communities in Africa with access to this most basic resource. And in just over a week, we get to commemorate our favorite time of year.

On Sunday, March 22nd, the world will commemorate the 16th annual observance of World Water Day. It's a time to discuss global water issues and remember the many people who do not have access to water.

Did you know that 1 in 6 of us around the world does not have access to safe, clean water? That for many, the only water available is over five miles away or brown or too expensive?  Can you imagine going a day without water? Or seeing a child die from diarrhea because he or she only had dirty water to drink?

This year we're celebrating World Water Day by helping communities and schools understand the importance of water. We will also honor this landmark event and our unwavering commitment to the cause by launching Campaign: Malawi, an effort to bring 100 PlayPump® water systems to "the warm heart of Africa." Visit our website to learn more about World Water Day and how you can help honor this important day.

Join our campaign and take action today with three easy steps:

Donate to Campaign: Malawi

In Malawi, just over half of the rural population has access to clean, safe drinking water. But, it doesn't have to be this way. Together we can improve this situation.

Make a donation today in honor of World Water Day and give the gift of clean water to a Malawian. Visit our Campaign: Malawi page on our website to learn more.

Donate Your Facebook or Twitter Status

Create Your Own Action

In honor of World Water Day, limit the amount of water your household uses, donate your coffee or soda money, or host a water walk. You can take simple steps to raise awareness about the global water crisis:

·  Sign the petition to adopt Article 31, the right to water at www.article31.org.

·  Host a FLOW Screening Party. Order your own copy of the film today on Amazon.

·  Send a text to five of your friends about World Water Day. Educate them about the global water crisis.

·  Donate your email signature.

·  Hold a water walk at your school, church, or office. How far you can carry a 5 gallon water jug?

Visit our Take Action page for more ideas or to download an Action Kit to get started.

Drop us an email at info@playpumps.org to tell us what you will do for World Water Day. We will highlight our favorite stories on our blog.

Whether we live upstream or downstream, we are all in the same boat. See you next week as we help honor the spirit of sharing one of life's most precious resources.
