Floods and Farms
Posted July 01, 2008 at 8:14 AM

Recent flooding in Wisconsin forced some people to evacuate their homes, prompted officials to close interstates and highways, and pressured many businesses to temporarily close…

The flood waters have since receded, the highways have been reopened, and the insurance claims have been filed. However the Wisconsin farmer still copes with flood damage and will continue struggling for some time.

The late spring rains came without warning and swept expensive nitrogen away from the farmer's soil. Many crops drowned, but because of inadequate nutrients the remaining yields remain “sour.” Farm experts anticipate tens of millions of dollars in damage, and many farmers will suffer through that damage because they could not afford costly insurance coverage.

Take a look at this  video  to hear what Wisconsin farmers had to say about their losses, and find out how the general public can help.
