It is time for a new Amendment to the Constitution. The current system for electing the President of the United States using the electoral college is outdated and just plain confusing. It was not until the 17th Amendment was passed that there was a direct election of the Senate. It is time that the 28th Amendment be added to the Constitution so that the President of the United States of America may be elected directly by the people for the people. Who's with me?!

Discussion: By the People? I think Not!

What is the point in having a democratic form of government, if only a few hundred people (i.e the members of the electorates) actually need to vote. When there are only two viable candidates the popular vote does make a difference.  In 2000, Al Gore won the popular vote, yet Bush became President, if the President were elected by popular vote only, there would be no more disputes.  Does anyone else think that Bush's rise to power could have been a Coup by the Republican Party?

The electoral college exists to ensure minority representation. Without the electoral college states like California, New York and Florida would decide all federal legislation. We are a nation built on state's rights, and as such, we must maintain some form of the electoral college.

Boohoo, when the electoral college doesn't work in your favor then you gotta change the law. What happen to states rights? I'm sorry that NY, CA, TX would elect all your presidents. I know you probably have that flyover state mindset but the issues for a nation mater to the people of Idaho just the same as Ohio

The electoral college was originally formed because the mindset was the ordinary pioneersman wasn't smart enough to decide who should run the country. It is past time for this to be changed it is just that right now it benifits the status quo and that is an uphill battle I am here to make.

If we were to have a country that is truly by the people for the people the mindset would be much different because the role of government would be much differnet.

Ponder this, our briliant founding fathers invisioned a free country where you pay half of everything you make to the government, Are forced to take mass medicating at birth, Are told how you can die by the government (ie. cigarettes, beer, drugs, pharmaceuticals, floride in the water), And have your hand held by the government the whole way in between.

Join my group Citizens for a Constitutional Governemt and help us to to debate topics and further educate myself and others about the problems we face today in government and government economics, why we face them, and how to effect change once voted in at all levels of government.
