City Year is a nonprofit organization built on the belief that young people can change the world. The organization unites individuals of all backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time community service. As tutors, mentors, and role models, City Year corps members make a difference in the lives of children and transform schools and neighborhoods. In addition, not only can they earn an educational award of $4,725 that can be used to further their education, pay back school loans, or attend trade school, but they also aquire, develop, and implement viable leadership and networking skills that enhance the communities that we serve. In one day a corps member can go from tutoring a kid in East Harlem to engaging community stakeholders in Bed-Stuy to helping facilitate a fundraiser in Chelsea – literally.

I just want to shout my Service Leader, Kim Gillman. Kim Gillman is an awesome positive female role model and is always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty for her team and friends. Kim has inspired me to keep going when times get hard. Days that we do not see Kim is like 2 people on the team are gone.
Kim has also inspired me to apply for the service leader job, her awesomeness is very contagious. If anyone want to appreciate anyone inspiring or invaluable to them? whether its a corpsmember or friend. Shout em out do your thing. Tell em why you serve! |
