City Year is a nonprofit organization built on the belief that young people can change the world. The organization unites individuals of all backgrounds for a demanding year of full-time community service. As tutors, mentors, and role models, City Year corps members make a difference in the lives of children and transform schools and neighborhoods. In addition, not only can they earn an educational award of $4,725 that can be used to further their education, pay back school loans, or attend trade school, but they also aquire, develop, and implement viable leadership and networking skills that enhance the communities that we serve. In one day a corps member can go from tutoring a kid in East Harlem to engaging community stakeholders in Bed-Stuy to helping facilitate a fundraiser in Chelsea literally. CYNY is only one of 17 City Year sites located across the country. To find out more, visit www.cityyear.org.

Discussion: Into the Wild - 50!!!

I braved the cold  today and made my way to PS 50.

I will admit that before I ascended the colorful ramp that leads up to the school, my mood was less than stellar .

But

All that all changed the minute I walked in the door and was met with 'hellos' and 'what's up's' from camp staff!!

Those guys brightened my mood!! I loved the look and feel, the sing-a-longs, the African drummer, the dancing and

I loved seeing them do a phenomenal job of keeping a million kids engaged!!

I was truly inspired.

Watch out 149 and 75...I'm coming through - stay tuned....

Camp at 149 was great. We had the wild safari guy who did a great job you can see him in action on my videos. The kids loved every minute of camp. I was sad because the kids were crying at the end of camp because they didnt want it to end and for a child to feel that way to me means that we have had a big impact in there life.
