VIDEO:  Home Coming

After coming out to friends and family, a high school student suffers a brutal attack during homecoming festivities. In pursuit of personal and academic safety, Perpich Center for Arts Education emerges as a beacon of progress, peace and purpose. There no longer exists any fear of brutality because of sexual orientation, or personal choices.

i personally do not agree with the whole same sex ideal, but i feel that it is not for us to judge. But rather for God to judge in the end. I admire your strength for what you believe in though.

If this young man were brutalized on the basis of race, would his story be given more attention? No one deserves to be beaten--not on the basis of race, and equally so, not on the basis of sexual orientation. Society needs to overcome this fear of same sex relationships! I think this story (as well as the many other unreported or unpublicized accounts) of violence against homosexuals must be covered by the media in a sympathetic light in order to change the apathetic attitude many Americans have toward this horrendous hate crime.

God might judge America for judging gays and lesbians but he does not judge love. The bible was written during a time of cultural ignorance- homosexuality has always existed and in all countries. It is only in Western countries that gays and lesbians have the democratic freedom to be out and proud. Why is America the most backward of Western nations where homophobia is encouraged by religious leaders, who should be preaching love and kindness, instead of hate, prejudice and bigotry.
Lets be an army for change- an army of love and peace- and show the world acceptance and tolerance: respect !!!

I think its amazing that you stayed strong and stuck to what you beleved in. It's soooo wrong for people to judge other people on what or who they love! You can't judge that! Love has no gender, you can not label it. This is one of the most important issues, I think, because if our culture is soo uncomfortable with homosexuality, its never going to be peaceful and welcoming and most importantly, FREE, like America is supposed to be! People need to start understanding that homophobia is the real issue, not gay people.

wow. i'm sorry, they shouldn't treat you any different. You can't change their mind without them wanting to change it themselves so if i were you, i would ignore them and spend as least time as possible around them so that they will want to treat you appropriately. You have to make them miss you and maybe that will help because they know the only way they can get to you is if they don't discriminate you on your sexual orientation. And if you haven't already, let them know that it's not a choice..

Declaración de Autoestima

Self Esteem

“I am Me. In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me. Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine, because I alone chose it -- I own everything about me: my body, my feelings, my mouth, my voice, all my actions, whether they be to others or myself. I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears. I own my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes. Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me. By so doing, I can love me and be friendly with all my parts. I know there are aspects about myself that puzzle me, and other aspects that I do not know -- but as long as I am friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously and hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles and ways to find out more about me. However I look and sound, whatever I say and do, and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time is authentically me. If later some parts of how I looked, sounded, thought, and felt turn out to be unfitting, I can discard that which is unfitting, keep the rest, and invent something new for that which I discarded. I can see, hear, feel, think, say, and do. I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive, and to make sense and order out of the world of people and things outside of me. I own me, and therefore, I can engineer me. I am me, and I am Okay.”

it is a shame that some people can be so cruel just because of sexual orientation, race, etc. i am glad that you've found a more suitable home where you can feel comfortable.

all the best :],

i think that you are an extremely strong individual for going through what you went through. It makes me proud to know that a member of the gay community is actually sticking up for themselves, instead of just taking it,because they think thats what society wants.

I am very happy that you found a school where you can be yourself. It is so sad to here stories like this one.

That sucks dude, imagine getting beat up with coke bottles because of your beliefs. On the flip side though, what percentage of the entire human population is straight? i wonder if the gay population was more than the hetero side, if they would beat up people for being straight? Life is weird and kinda works that way. I do not condone any hate crimes and i do not support any one planning, encouraging, even endorsing hate crimes lol.

It doesnt seem right that everyone has to be the same as everyone else. We should be able to be ourselves instead of hiding it. you cared enough and so did your friends and family to know that you are loved. im glad that you found some place where people accept you for you.
I am sorry that you had to go through that. Love is love, and it comes in all forms whether it be homosexual, interracial or whatever. Love is always a beautiful thing. There will always be ignorant people, but you can't let anyone bring you down. You are a truely strong person, and the best of luck to you
