Step 2: Choose Wisely
by  thinkMTV

Did you know that small changes to your daily habits can have a major impact on saving our planet? And we don't even have to sacrifice the things we care about! Read on to find out ten simple choices you can make every day to become a better eco-friendly crusader!

10. CHOOSE ORGANIC
Reaching for a snack? Stock up on organic fruits and veggies at your local supermarket or produce stand. Organic farming does not use pesticides and other chemicals that damage the environment. It's also healthier and usually locally grown, so it requires less energy to produce and transport.

9. CHOOSE TO REUSE
Tossing that folder? Wait! You can reuse file folders, paper clips, elastic bands, binders, and scrap paper to reduce waste. So the next time you submit a paper at school or a report at work, print it out using both sides of the pages. You may even get extra credit or a promotion for helping to save our earth!

8. CHOOSE TO SAVE WATER
Don't even think about that daily rubber ducky bath anymore. Baths can use up to 50 gallons of water, so opt for an energizing shower instead and preserve our natural resources. Also, think twice before leaving that water running when you're brushing your teeth or shaving.

7. CHOOSE TO LEAD THE WAY
Volunteer in your community to raise awareness about the dangers of global warming and lead your city down the path of environmental enlightenment. If you don't do it, who will? Find out which organizations you can contact to get moving here.

6. CHOOSE TO SAVE TREES
Brushing up on Dickens to impress that special someone? Researching for that term paper? Read up in the library or use the internet instead of buying new books. You'll save money and trees.

5. CHOOSE TO GET POLITICAL
The officials that YOU elect are the same ones making the impotant environmental decisions. Even if you're not of voting age, you can still write letters to your city and state representatives to make your eco-voice heard. Track environmental legislation or find your elected officials.

4. CHOOSE TO UNPLUG
Electronics eat up precious energy! Not charging your cell/pager/ipod/camera? Unplug that charger and keep your consumption habits in check! Even when your device isn't attached to the charger, that sucker is gobbling up wasted energy.

3. CHOOSE TO CUT YOUR BILLS IN HALF
There are countless ways to make your dorm, apartment, or home more eco-friendly and save money in the process. Choose to replace older appliances that are money-sucking deadbeats, change to compact fluorescent light bulbs, and opt for a fan over the air conditioner. You could dramatically reduce your utility bills and avoid putting thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

2. CHOOSE TO AVOID OIL
The main cause of global warming is the carbon dioxide released when fossil fuels like oil are burned to create energy. Since fossil fuels are currently our primary energy source, it's up to you to choose alternatives to gas guzzling modes of transportation! Find out how you can make greater use of buses, carpooling, and mass transit in your everyday life. Also, look into alternatives to non-renewable energy sources, such as biodiesel.

1. CHOOSE TO SPREAD THE WORD
Imagine if your friends and family began to break their addictions too…and then they spread the word even further. The individual actions you take may seem small, but if everyone did them, we'd be on the path to preserving our natural resources, reducing waste, cutting consumption, and saving our planet. Make your impact exponential by beginning a chain to help others face their addictions too.
