Latino Beginnings: Double Minority: Being Latino and LGBT
by  thinkMTV

Latino Beginnings follows three gay Latino young people as they confront and overcome cultural barriers to acceptance in their communities. The show explores a number of different issues associated with being gay, being Latino, and being unashamed of being different.

Marisol:

In Latino Beginnings, Marisol returns to her parents' home in Los Angeles after injuring herself in military training. The pain that she had to endure as a solider with a secret has made her determined to come out as a lesbian, but she worries that her news won't be received well by her deeply religious mother. Marisol visits the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center to speak with a counselor about how she can tell her mother the truth about her sexuality.

Jesse:

School can be an especially difficult place to be out and proud, as Jesse finds as he struggles to fight stereotypes when he runs for student body president of New Mexico Highlands University. During the campaign, Jesse's sexuality becomes an issue when he runs against a popular athlete. If he wins, he would become the first openly gay president in the school's history - but he still isn't sure that his parents would attend his inauguration.

Gustavo:

A member of the drag community, a subculture of people that cross-dress, Gustavo tries out for the competitive Miami Ball Scene, where he undergoes grueling training to perfect his routine. The group is also involved in HIV prevention and encourages Gustavo to get tested and learn more about protecting himself from STDs.
