Last month, as part of Break the Addiction's 12-Step Program, you learned how to Go Healthy. Now it's time for you to get in touch with your softer side and take Step 10: Love, Protect and Preserve.
February is for lovers, so this Valentine's Day, be sure to love your lover AND your mother...Earth that is. And if you intend to break anything this Feb 14, don't break hearts, Break the Addiction!!!
Need ideas of things to do for your sweetie this year? Instead of getting in trouble for forgetting to send flowers, win bonus points with your special someone by celebrating V-Day the eco-friendly way. Here are some suggestions:
It's Getting Hot in Herrr
: Your gym socks don't need to be the only thing hot and steamy this Valentine's Day. What says "I like you like more than a friend" better than planning an intimate evening at home? Cook that special person dinner on V-day...it's romantic, thoughtful, sexy, and more eco-friendly than you may think. Consider this: using candlelight saves electricity, eating in reduces pollution you might otherwise cause by driving to dinner, eating organic foods from your local grocery store is eco-friendly, and you'll save on your energy bill because the only heat you're going to need is each other!
Every Rose (Doesn't Have To) Have It's Thorn
: When you give roses, they last a week at best. So come on, be a little corny, tell your valentine you wanted to get them a flower that shows how long your love will last...forever! Blah! But seriously, get a plant. They're equally as beautiful, last longer, and cleanse your space by adding fresh oxygen in the air. And here's an additional tidbit, the Aloe plant is one of the only plants that pumps oxygen both during the day AND at night, plus it's good for minor cuts and scrapes. Sorry...it won't mend broken hearts!
: If you need to show up with something for your mate, make it a green gift. There are a ton of stores now that sell eco-friendly products. Check out your town and see if there is a local mom-and-pop shop that sells earth friendly gifts. If that doesn't work, many major brands sell organic cotton clothing...from Patagonia, to Levi's and Wal-Mart. If your not sure, just ask...nowadays everyone is aware of how popular organic products are so it won't be too hard to find out if a retailer has them or not. Don't be afraid to go online either...a search for "green gifts" or "organic clothes" will turn up a bunch of options.
This February, be safe, be good, and don't be afraid to make Valentine's Day all about spreading the love while you Break the Addiction!
