At 15, Darius "Big Daddy" Weems left his home in Georgia for the first time in pursuit of his dream of getting his wheelchair “pimped.” In the process, he became an award-winning documentarian. Darius Goes West has brought the issue of disability rights to the national stage and has raised over $2 million for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research.
Darius was born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Seven years ago, he lost his beloved older brother, Mario, to the same disease. Many people don't know about DMD, yet it is the number one genetic killer of children in the world.
How can you get involved?
The good news is that scientists have discovered the cause of DMD and have never been closer to finding a cure. You can help spread Darius' story and play a part in finding a cure.
